Another moment of serendipity. Coming off the ferry to visit temples in the province of Nonthaburi near Bangkok, I was immediately 'confronted' by magnificent 'white elephants' (renowned as sacred) and their mahouts celebrating the inauguration of a new head monk. The splendour of colour, pomp and ceremony got me shooting handheld telephoto for over half-an-hour. What a sight!

A quick look at favourite image from the back catalogue  |  #1

I'm a huge fan of red suns taken with a telephoto. I find the phenomenon extraordinary. Over COVID, I spent time in Hervey Bay, Queensland walking the mangrove shores every evening. As I soon discovered, it's a photographer's paradise. I'd often bump into other nature lovers seeking the 'shot of the day'. I was about to learn the meaning of creative serendipity as this setting sun ran a blistering red from my perch on the beach in Gattaker's Bay. There was a fire offshore on Fraser Island sending these mists of smoke onto the mainland - perfect for saturating colour! This image was composed to get as large a sun as possible and, on reflection, realised it resembled the aboriginal flag. I sent this image to the leader of the Fraser Island aboriginal community of Butchulla.
