Most of the movie scenes came from Belinda Shillcock of Inspired Adventures. I filmed a couple of scenes in addition to the photography -near the end as we all file past on the last day after visiting Banteay Sray Temple in the Angkor Wat complex and the ‘whoopee scene’ of the cyclists as we complete the end of the cycle and arrive at the hotel in Siem Reap. CHILDFUND Australia and Inspired Adventures organised the cycle to raise funds for a new school in Chouk Meas, Svay Rieng province in Cambodia. 16 fundraisers, including myself, raised a total sum of $63,000 – the biggest single source of funding to this project. I still find that a staggering figure.
There were movie nights and cow raffles (great idea from dairy farmers Peter and Jake) to name but a few ways in which the team reached their minimum donation of $3500.

QUICK FACTS: On my bike I carried the Olympus E-3 with the Zuiko 12-60mm F2.8-4.0 SWD Standard Wide Zoom on shutter priority at approx 1/250 to eliminate camera shake as much as possible. In addition to one-handed photography taken as I cycle, occasional heavy rain and intense heat made the photography challenging to say the least. The super fast auto-focus, effective image stabilisation and rugged build of the E-3 didn’t let me down in this challenging environment.
I was keen to stay in the saddle as often as possible to keep with the group and achieve my goal of cycling 99.9% of the 350km or so to the end a week later. A couple of times I hitched a ride on our support bus to snap the cyclists from the side in motion. I would have loved a second week of cycling to hone these techniques but I guess I’ll just have to wait for another cycling trip to come my way.
