Exactly one year after my assignment in Nepal with Australian Geographic, Murray Laurence, writing for The Australian who also accompanied us on the trek , has published his article on our community project in the Annapurna range in the magazine ECS Nepal, illustrated with my images. We came across this publication as we prepared for our trek at the Radisson Hotel in Kathmandu and decided to pitch the story.
In addition, this story has appeared in various forms in the Australian Geographic Yearbook 1 and The Australian newspaper. Murray and myself will seek a new venture to write and photograph in the near future hoping to expand on our seredipitous collaboration formed over the ten days we clambered through rhododendron forests, high passes and laboured to build the bridge. We managed four days of labour in which time the foundations had been laid and the remaining tasks were left to the Nepali team.
I’m glad to say the bridge is now complete (see pic at bottom) and the schoolchildren can cross the creek safely (often flooded) and credit goes to the incredible resourcefulness of the Nepali workers who produced a wonderful construction with no electrical tools.
