‘Red shirt’ anti-government protestors take over the streets – time to head north

100 metres from my flat in Banglamphu district, 50,000 ‘red-shirt’ protestors are congregated, demanding the resignation of the current government. These protestors support ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra who has been charged of abusing his publicly-elected position to profit himself and family, but still manages to hold great sway with locals all over the country.

UNESCO provide text message service to employees which, for me, is particularly useful as the epicentre of the protest is Phan Fa, my transport hub during the week. I witnessed the same protest last year which to the ‘red shirts’ discredit got violent and army tanks were called in. Lets hope for a peaceful protest this time round.

I will spend the weekend away from the unrest by the river Kwai, two hours north from Bangkok. See pics above.
