About World Expeditions Community Project Travel Community Project travel is a unique ‘giving back’ program that World Expeditions have operated since 2005 as a ‘not-for-profit’ division of the company. The program aims to assist impoverished communities that receive little or no funding from the government. Each project is sustainable in the work that is started and completed by the time we leave the community, resulting in a tangible benefit.

Shree Bukha Deurali School was established 45 years ago in the small village of Bukha in the Annapurna foothills. An expansive 25-room structure, the school presently has an attendance of 368 pupils with 15 teachers providing their education. During the trek to the school we travel beyond the tea houses, passing through traditional Hindu villages and following trails through oak and rhododendron forest where we camp in serene locations that showcase dramatic views of the Annapurna Range.

On arrival in Bukha we can be assured of a warm welcome from the students before the hard work begins. Our project work will include general building and furniture maintenance, completion of a school canteen, much needed work on a clean water supply, and time permitting, construction of a new furniture for the classrooms.
